Spartanburg County men are charged with shooting at Sheriff's Deputies prosecutors say were "just catching up on paperwork" in their patrol car on an Inman  parking lot early Sunday.

Neither deputy was hit but 22 year old Akymzee Holbert

and 23 year old Tarus Mallory

are each charged with attempted murder and one count of possession of a weapon in a violent crime.

Investigators say they found a couple of (Glock semi-auto) handguns and a loaded magazine when their car was stopped on I-26.

The deputies say they heard several shots fired from the Interstate near the Outdoor Store's parking lot, and saw muzzle flashes as they drove toward the car.

But the suspects told the judge at a bond hearing last night they were not shooting at anyone; Holbert saying "we were just in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Bond was denied.

Press release from the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office below:

This morning (09.13.20) about 4:15 AM two deputies from the Uniform Patrol Division of the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office were in the parking lot of 150 Accurate Way, Inman, SC which runs parallel to Interstate 26.

Without warning the deputies heard several gunshots and saw muzzle flashes from the direction of Interstate 26 East.

The deputies moved from their parked positions and heard several more gunshots.

They notified dispatch that someone was shooting at them and gave their location.

One of several deputies responding to the scene observed a green in color Camaro driving at a high rate of speed on Interstate 26 East away from the incident location.

A traffic stop was performed on the vehicle and Akymzee Holbert and Tarus Mallory were taken into custody.

Both subjects have been charged with two counts of Attempted Murder and one count of Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime. Mr. Mallory was cited on a ticket for Driving Under Suspension.

A formal bond hearing will be held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center Magistrate Court Office at 6:00 PM. Solicitor Barry Barnette will be conducting the bond hearing.
