The warnings about vaping have now hit the Upstate.

Prisma Health Upstate announced on Tuesday that doctors have alerted South Carolina’s Department of Health and Environmental Control about five cases of severe pulmonary disease that appear to be related to vaping, or e-cigarette usage.

This comes after DHEC independently announced on Monday that there have been two confirmed cases in South Carolina so far, with likely more to come.

Symptoms of the vaping-related pulmonary disease include difficulty breathing and chest pain, and occasionally vomiting and severe fatigue, or other flu-like symptoms.

Nationwide, concerns over vaping have risen after multiple cases of vaping related lung ailments, including seven deaths so far.
