Solicitor Walt Wilkins announced Thursday that no charges will be filed after a review of the SLED investigation into a deadly Greenville County deputy-involved shooting.

On Nov. 29, 2017, deputies said a pursuit was initiated by a suspected intoxicated driver. Deputies pursued 27-year-old Jacob Paul McCarty of Landrum, and said he later intentionally struck and disabled a deputy's vehicle.

When the vehicle stopped, deputies said McCarty presented a firearm and although they attempted to negotiate with him, gunfire was exchanged.

Wilkins said evidence supports a finding that the deputy acted appropriately under the circumstances.
