On Sunday afternoon at approx. 4:41 PM, deputies were dispatched to a disturbance with weapons call at 128 Countryside Circle, Moore, SC, 29369. While in route to the incident location, dispatchers relayed updated information to the responding deputies that a white male on the scene was cutting and stabbing himself. Upon the arrival of our first white male deputy, he encountered the suspect in the roadway outside the trailer.

That male had cut himself on his arms several times and told the deputy to shoot and kill him. The deputy told the suspect to drop the knife numerous times, which was heard and seen by several witnesses at the scene. The suspect didn’t drop the knife and continued advancing towards the deputy, forcing the deputy to fire his duty weapon.

The suspect was struck several times. As other deputies got to the scene, one provided first aid to the suspect until EMS arrived and transported him to the hospital.  Per policy, this agency has called in the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) to investigate this incident, and their investigators are currently at the scene.

Because of the infancy stages of this investigation, we are not releasing any documentation or the names of either our deputy or the suspect, and any future media inquiries about this incident should be directed towards SLED. Our deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave until an internal investigation is completed.

The suspect in this case is now out of surgery.
