ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina police officer is getting his job back after being fired over statements he gave investigators about a handcuffed man's beating while in custody.

A news outlet reports Sgt. Chris Aman will return to the force but will be demoted.

Aman was a shift supervisor on July 19 when another officer struck the man in the back of a patrol car four times. That officer resigned from the Anderson department under suspicion of having committed misconduct.

Police Chief Jim Stewart's findings in the case say Aman covered up the wrongful use of force and submitted official reports he knew weren't true.

City officials said Friday that additional information came to light during Aman's appeal, but they did not describe it.
