Passenger dies teen driver survives

Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis released the following statement regarding a fatal crash in the county Saturday evening.

A 59 year-old Seneca man died Saturday afternoon from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle collision near Salem.  

This incident occurred shortly after 2:00 pm on Stamp Creek Road near Salem.  

The SC Highway Patrol continues to investigate this incident.  

Steve Henry Osbey (aka Steve Henry Oglesby) of West South 4th Street, Seneca, died at the scene from a head injury.  

His manner of death is classified accidental.  


The Highway Patrol reported the crash occurred when a 1993 Chevy pickup truck traveling west on Stamp Creek Road ran off the right side of the road, struck a ditch, overcorrected and then overturned.

Osbey, who was a passenger, died from his injuries en route to the hospital.

The 16-year-old driver was charged with driving too fast for conditions.
