A child was bitten by a pit bull while getting off of a school bus in Greenville on Thursday.

According to a Greenville County Sheriff's Office news release, deputies responded to Thompson Drive in Greenville in reference to a dog bite.

When they arrived they learned that a child was attacked and bitten in the leg by a pit bull.

The child was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but is expected to be ok.

The owner has been cited with dog run at large and not having a rabies tag on the animal and the dog has not been seized and animal control is monitoring the situation.

Authorities say  they'll determine if the dog will be seized based on the severity of the child's injuries.
