Anderson County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer, Staff Sergeant JT Foster issued the following press release Saturday.

Anderson, SC (18 April 2020, 12:20 a.m. EDT) –  At approximately 11:40 pm (Friday) Anderson County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a 911 hang up call on Evergreen Street in Anderson.

Once on scene, deputies were encountered by an adult male suspect armed with a knife.  The suspect aggressively approached the deputy, who fired their weapon.  The suspect was stuck at least one time and has been transported to the hospital and their injuries are unknown at this time.

No ACSO personnel were injured in the incident. As standard protocol, the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has been called to investigate the incident.

The ACSO will not release any further information regarding this incident due to SLED’s ongoing investigation.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division issued the following press release Saturday on the deputy involved shooting in Anderson County.

Agents of the S.C. Law Enforcement Division continue their investigation of an incident Friday night when one man was killed in a confrontation with deputies from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.

SLED conducts law enforcement officer involved shooting investigations at the request of the agency involved in the incident. These independent investigations follow SLED’s guidance in conducting interviews along with the gathering and analysis of forensic evidence. Interviews are being conducted with the responding officers and others.

Information gathered in the SLED investigation of the incident will be summarized in a case file report to be submitted to prosecutors. This is an ongoing investigation. No other information about the case will be disclosed by SLED at this time. SLED will defer to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office for any information about their officers.

The incident in Anderson County was the 12th officer involved shooting in South Carolina in 2020 and the second this year involving the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. In 2019, there were 45 officer involved shootings in South Carolina; four involved the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
