Stole SUV and Dog

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office issued the following press release Sunday. 

(Walhalla, SC) - The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Greenville man in an investigation into the theft of a stolen vehicle and dog that occurred early Saturday morning.

Zachary Jordan Vanwingerden

25 year old Zachary Jordan Vanwingerden was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 12:12am this morning after turning himself in.  Vanwingerden was charged with one count each of Grand Larceny and Stealing Dogs.  He was released on his own recognizance mid-morning today.  He was given a combined $15,000 personal recognizance bond on his charges.

According to arrest warrants obtained by the Sheriff’s Office, Vanwingerden is accused of stealing a white in color 2016 Toyota Highlander and a black Lab canine named Jett early yesterday morning from an address on Forest Drive near Seneca.  

The Public Information Office received word late yesterday morning that the dog had been recovered, was safe back home and not injured, while the vehicle was also recovered and will be processed for evidence before being returned to the owners.  Both the dog and vehicle were recovered at Tillman Place in Clemson, according to the victims.
