Salem Death Investigation – Tractor Incident

At 11:41 am on Tuesday morning (June 13th), Oconee E-911 received a call for service for a lawnmower tractor incident.

This incident occurred near 246 Cross Creek road, Salem; the 911 call was placed by the daughter of the deceased.

Earl M. Rowland, 82, who resides nearby on Cross Creek Road, was mowing grass on property near the home of his daughter. 

The tractor he was operating was a Kubota F2260 front deck mower tractor with rear steering.

Mr. Rowland was operating his tractor down a hill toward a pond while mowing.  It appears he made  a right turn; the tractor overturned into the pond.

Mr. Rowland was pinned beneath the tractor and died at the scene from apparent drowning with blunt force trauma contributing. 

No autopsy will be ordered.

His manner of death will be classified as accidental.
