South Carolina's busiest airport is weighing plans for further expansion.

The Post and Courier reports the governing board of Charleston International Airport will be presented with a new 10-year plan this week that will include an accelerated timetable for a new terminal wing.

Airport CEO Paul Campbell said the plan is now to have the new wing completed by 2023 __ about five years earlier than previously expected. He said that's because passenger growth has exceeded expectations.

Charleston's airport served 4.47 million passengers last year __ more than double the number it saw in 2010. Airport officials are forecasting about 4.8 million people will fly in and out of Charleston in 2019.

Campbell said the number of gates to be added and the cost of the expansion haven't been determined.
