Seneca Man Arrested on Multiple Charges

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Seneca man over the weekend on charges of First Degree Burglary and Criminal Sexual Conduct – 1st Degree.

35 year old Traseith Vergie Williams of S. Poplar Street was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 6pm Saturday.

A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division was dispatched to an address in the Seneca area in regards to reports of a burglary and sexual assault.  According to information obtained during the investigation, the victim awoke to the suspect, identified later as Williams, inside the victim’s room performing a sex act on the victim, who is a female.

The case was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division of the Sheriff’s Office and further evidence was gathered in the case. 

Based upon evidence gathered in the investigation, the investigator was able to obtain arrest warrants against Williams for entering the dwelling of the victim by night without the victim’s permission and with the intent of committing a crime therein.  The crime was a sexual battery upon the victim.

That same day, deputies were notified and met with the Pendleton Police Department in regards to Williams, whom they had in custody based upon warrants from the Sheriff’s Office.  Williams was then transported to the Detention Center.

At this time, Williams remains in custody at the Detention Center on a combined $100,000 surety bond.  Williams, as a condition of bond, will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device upon release.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation.
