Talked selling off his eateries

Greenville restaurateur Carl Sobocinski is well known locally for his string of successfully eateries, ranging from his namesake Soby’s New South Cuisine, which opened in 1997, to The Lazy Goat, to Southern Pressed Juicery, to name a few.  

Now Sobocinski and his Table 301 dining group are getting attention in a profile in Forbes… not for the food, but for his decision to sell many of his restaurants to employees.

Earlier this year, Sobocinski sold Papi’s Taco’s to its namesake, Jorge “Papi” Borrales.

Sobocinski says he’s looking to get more involved in local philanthropy and affordable housing and transportation, as well as spending more time with his family.

 But, he says one restaurant will never be for sale, and that’s the one that bears his name: Soby’s.
