A water system is offering to restock a South Carolina lake where algae-killing spray contributed to the death of more than 200,000 fish earlier this year.

The Spartanburg Water system said it can restock Lake Bowen and Municipal Reservoir No. 1.

Spartanburg Water and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources met earlier this week to discuss the fish kill and how to avoid it.

Spartanburg Water CEO Sue Schneider said the system failed to notify the state agency immediately after the May algae treatment at the lake and reservoir.

Schneider apologized and said the water system will work more closely with the state agency.

The water system has said there was no danger to either those who drank the water or those who use the lake for recreation.
