March 26, 2019 - 9:00 am

There are a couple of special elections in the Upstate today.

Voting Machine
The big one is for picking a new State Senator in South Carolina Senate District 6.  William Timmons resigned from that seat when he went to Congress earlier this year.

Running for that seat are:

  • Democrat Tina Belge, who currently works in Greenville County Long-Range Planning and is the Executive Director for Keep Greenville County Beautiful.
  • Republican State Rep. Dwight Loftis, who has held his seat in the state House of Representatives since 1996.  He won a special primary election back in January.

Senate District 6 covers the east-central part of Greenville County.  Find your polling place.  A few things to note: Some precincts are moving their polling place their regular polling place is not available.  That info is available HERE.  Also, some voters will be using new voting machines that the County is testing.

There is also a special election in Pickens County, for School District #7.   The last vote for this seat in a newly created district had some problems when some voting machines were programmed incorrectly and the vote margin in the last election ended up being within just 21 votes.  The Governor's office ordered a new election.  It will also take place on Tuesday.

The candidates are Philip Healy and Alice Vander Linden.   Find your polling place.

You'll need one of the following forms of ID to vote: a South Carolina driver's license, Department of Motor Vehicles ID card, South Carolina concealed weapons permit, a South Carolina voter registration card with photo, a federal military ID, or U.S. passport.
