First homicide investigated by GPD in 2019

The Greenville Police Department issued the following press release Saturday morning.

This morning at approximately 3 a.m., GPD patrol officers responded to reports of a gunshot victim at Waterside Greene Apartments, located at 741 Woodruff Road. When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive male who had been shot inside one of the apartments. The victim was immediately transported to an area medical facility where he was pronounced dead.

GPD officers and detectives secured the apartment and interviewed multiple witnesses who were present when the shooting occurred. Personnel from the Greenville County Forensics Division and the Greenville County Coroner’s Office are assisting with this investigation.

Detectives have not determined motive or the relationship between the victim and the unidentified suspects. This is the first homicide investigated by the GPD in 2019.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office is expected to release the victim’s name and cause of death later today.

The Greenville County Coroner's Office issed the following press release Saturday evening identifying the victim, Udeh Joshua Prince Osuagwu, Jr. 18 of Greenville.

Greenville County EMS and Greenville City Police Department responded to 741 Woodruff Road  Greenville, SC 29607 for reports of a gunshot victim. 
The victim, identified as Udeh Joshua Prince, Jr. by the coroner's office, was transported to Prisma Greenville Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. 

An autopsy was performed on May 11, 2019. The cause of death has been determined to be due to a gunshot wound to the head. The manner of death is homicide.

This incident remains under investigation by the Greenville City Police Department and the Greenville County Coroner's Office.
