The dispute over Greenville Health System's change from a public nonprofit organization to a private nonprofit may be close to an end.

State House lawmakers Thursday afternoon approved a new compromise that spells out additional financial commitments and details the obligations of the system.

Lawmakers say the compromise will also improve the accountability of the system.

The amended bill must now return to the Senate.

Friday, Sandy Dees a spokesperson for GHS released this statement:

“We’re pleased with the progress that’s been made. We look forward to this issue being resolved and GHS getting back to doing what we do best – providing outstanding patient care to our communities, regardless of patient ability of pay.”
