The driver of an 18-wheeler has been charged for his role in an accident that shut down Interstate 85 early Friday morning in Anderson County.

The crash happened on I-85 Northbound at the nine mile marker. The South Carolina Highway Patrol says 51 year old William Johnson of Kingston, Georgia was stopped in the emergency lane, but the trailer of the 2017 Freightliner was partially in a lane of the interstate.

Another driver from Georgia – at the wheel of a 2016 Freightliner – ran into the back of Johnson’s tractor-trailer.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts and were not hurt. The accident shut down all lanes of Interstate 85 for much of the morning.

Johnson was charged with improper parking.
