Voters in Union decided Tuesday they want to see a change in their city’s form of government.

A referendum asked voters if the city’s form of government should change from a mayor-council, or “strong mayor” form of government to a council form of government.

The vote was 312 in favor of the referendum and 221 votes againt.

The change will strip away some of the mayor’s powers of running the city’s daily operations.

The change becomes effective on July 1.
