The United States' top labor official is visiting South Carolina to see firsthand the company's commitment to workforce development and training.

Boeing says U.S. Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta is making a trip Friday to the aerospace giant's plant in North Charleston.

The visit follows on President Donald Trump's signing Thursday of an executive order asking companies to pledge to invest in work-based education and training, including apprenticeships.

Boeing says it's one of the first five companies making that pledge. The company says it's investing in several programs to help employees hone technical skills and the latest tools and technologies.

On Friday, Acosta is expected to talk about the White House's initiative and Boeing's involvement with it.
