Entrepreneurs gathered to pitch their ideas and companies at a recent Greenville venture capital event.

The Greenville Chamber of Commerce through its Next SC program just hosted its annual Venture Pitch event. The yearly event gathers local business leaders, entrepreneurs and startups to discuss the importance venture capital and to pitch their ideas.

Venture capital – financing that is provided to startups with the intention of spurring long-term growth – is especially key for local economic growth, and nowhere is that more evident than in Greenville.

The event featured pitches from local entrepreneurs like David Setzer of the downtown-based email security system Mail Protector.

Mail Protector, like many startups in the Greenville area, began with a simple but ingenious idea – in this case, a now-patented method of encrypting emails by simply placing brackets around the words in the email’s subject line, as opposed to the far more convoluted encryption methods on the market today.

But Setzer says it’s about more than just an idea.

“Now for Mail Protector it’s not just about the quality of the product, but whether our partners can take our product and go to market with them,” he explained during his pitch.  “And our partners are telling us that they can and they love that.
