From the Oconee County Sheriff's Office:

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a West Union woman Sunday on multiple charges, including Attempted Murder.

40 year old April Dawn Townsend was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 12:41pm. The Detention Center lists Townsend’s address as Fernwood Drive while arrest warrants lists Doc Sanders Circle as Townsend’s address.

Besides Attempted Murder, Townsend has also been charged in arrest warrants with Arson-Second Degree, Attempted Arson and Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime.

Deputies from the Uniform Patrol Division responded to an address on Mema Lane in Seneca in reference to a reported disturbance between a male and a female. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies discovered Townsend in the yard of the residence, who told the deputies that a male subject was inside the house. Deputies discovered smoke from inside the residence but after making entry, could not locate anyone inside.

Deputies later discovered that the male subject was at the hospital receiving treatment for injuries. As deputies spoke to Townsend, she appeared to be oblivious to what was going on as deputies had to say her name several times during their conversation in order for Townsend to respond to them. Deputies also discovered burnt hair on Townsend’s clothing.

Deputies also spoke with the victim in the case. The victim stated that Townsend made threats towards him and also stated that Townsend stated that other people were coming to crucify her. On Sunday, Townsend assaulted the victim by placing a plastic bag over his head, hitting him the head with a machete and throwing an ax at him. The victim also stated that Townsend attempted to set the victim’s vehicle on fire as the victim attempted to drive away.

Deputies also at the scene observed where someone attempted to set fire to a separate vehicle at the incident location.

Townsend was arrested and booked in on a Temporary Custody Order yesterday.

Based upon the evidence gathered, a deputy obtained arrest warrants in the case against Townsend today.

At this time, Townsend remains in custody at the Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
