An upstate woman was sentenced to 30 years in prison for burning a man to death while he slept.

Angela Berry was charged with murder and first-degree arson in the death of 53-year-old William David Corteville.  Berry was arrested in July of 2015 after dousing Corteville with gasoline and setting him on fire.

Corteville was severely burned and survived five months in the Augusta Burn Center before he died.

Berry pled guilty to a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter in court Monday.  The defense argued there was a history of abuse between Berry and Corteville that should be factored into the sentence.

The judge heard final pleas from the defense and the prosecution Tuesday before issuing the sentence.

The judge said Berry could be eligible for parole after serving seven years.
